Especially if it gets kids reading. Midvale had several in the school library and they were incredibly popular. Including a whole history series.

Also just and fyi, Shannon Hale's book Rapunzel's Revenge has been nominated for a Cybils award. Cybils are the Children's and Young Adult Bloggers' Literary Awards. They have two categories sepcifically for graphic novels one for YA and the other for middle readers. This would also be a place to get a good list of high quality GNs. Check it out here at the roundtable of judges and titles http://dadtalk.typepad.com/cybils/2008/11/meet-the-panelists-graphic-novels-roundtable.html.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5650747552148657902.post-70384966333853825772008-11-14T12:05:00.000-07:002008-11-14T12:05:00.000-07:00Chris Vitiello said... We have a newer book search that's more student-focused called "Find a Book with Lexiles" that lets young readers (or teachers or parents) search by Lexile range and subject category, and build reading lists.

Also, we've been revisiting Lexile codes recently -- those are the two letters you sometimes see on the front of a Lexile measure. Earlier this year we debuted the GN code to explicitly identify graphic novels. We have some back-dating to do still -- there are some books measured over the last decade that need to have this GN code applied in retrospect -- but we're getting there.

Also when you get a chance, check out the new Lexile blog at http://lexile-teachers.blogspot.com

Thanks again,

Chris
November 13, 2008 7:58 PMAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
